The Uaru Cichlid, Uaru amphiacanthoides has a unique body shapes and coloring in cichlid family. This fish love to eat plants when large, not recommended for most planted aquarium. Its normal adult coloring is a silvery gray color marked by a single, large dark tear shaped spot in the middle of the body; this fish also has bright red eyes. Juvenile Uaru Cichlids are unique in coloring, with their white speckling covering most of their body and a golden fringe edging. These special characteristics will fade as the fish grows older, generally disappearing altogether by the time they are 3-4 inches in length. It is a peaceful fish that does well in a community aquarium.
