Tiger pleco (Panaqolus sp. L002). Tiger plecos have an attractive dark and light banded pattern reminiscent of a “tiger”. This species is from the Rio Tocantins in Brazil. This fish does not get much larger than 4 inches. In the wild this species is a wood eater, so having wood in the aquarium is essential. This fish likes soft woods like spider wood being a favorite. It is an active fish and is a very good aquarium glass algae cleaner. You will see it regularly hang on the aquarium glass, the surface of a rock or leave. It is an omnivorous fish and not a picky eater. Tiger plecos will also eat pleco chips (algae wafers), gel foods like Repashy’s Morning Wood and Soilent Green, potatoes, and blanched vegetables like zucchini. It is a very good looking catfish. It loves to forage thought the aquarium day and night. They do well by themselves in small planted aquariums, or in small group in larger planted aquarium. They will require some hiding place to hide and feel safe, like a cave. This fish will adapt well to Hard and/or Soft water, Ph of 6 to 8 and temperature of 75 to 85. This fish is considered peaceful and will do well in any community aquarium. It is not known to be a plant eater.
